ABSTRACT

Objective:To determine the effect of comprehensive measures at reducing mosquito density in residential parking lot, and to provide scientific evidence for exploring a new mosquito density control mode in parking lot. Methods:During April to October in 2018, a package of measures were implemented in the observation group, including designating a full-time staff, combination of property management and mosquito eradication work, continual clean-up of breeding ground, appropriate use of pesticide, education and training of pest control knowledge, and so on. No intervention was conducted in the control group. Then we observed the effect of the above measures in reducing mosquito density. Results:After the implementation of the comprehensive measures, the average adult mosquito density and infant positive rate of ponding mosquitoes in the residential parking lot in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The mosquito positive rate in rainwater well, sewage well, drainage ditch and intercepting ditch in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group. There were no statistically significant difference between the observation group and the control group in the adult mosquito density and the infant positive rate of ponding mosquito in April. Conclusion:Through a package of comprehensive prevention and control measures, mosquito density in the parking lot at residential areas can be effectively reduced. However, there are still some resistances in the implementation process of measures, which need to be constantly optimized to achieve better on-site prevention and control effect.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the potential risk of schistosomiasis transmission in Xiuzhou District of Jiaxing City, so as to provide the scientific evidence for consolidating schistosomiasis control achievements. Methods Fixed and mobile surveillance sites were set up in Xiuzhou District of Jiaxing City from 2013 to 2015. Oncomelania hupensis snails was surveyed historical snail habitats, current snail habitats, and suspected snail habitats. The schistosome infections were identified using serological and parasitological testing among local residents and mobile populations. In addition, the survival and reproduction of snails imported into Xiuzhou District was observed, and the schistosome infection in wild reservoir hosts was detected. Results A total of 540.14 hm2 of settings were surveyed in Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing City from 2013 to 2015, and 1.65 hm2 of snail habitats were identified. The snail habitats were mainly located in dry lands, and no infected snails or importation of snails were found. During the period from 2013 to 2015, a total of 7 668 local residents and mobile populations were examined in Xiuzhou District, and no new local infections were detected; however, three imported schistosomiasis cases were identified. Field simulation experiment showed that the imported snails laid eggs and reproduced in Xiuzhou District, and no schistosome infections were found in wild animals. Conclusion There are still residual Oncomelania snails and imported schistosomiasis patients in Xiuzhou District of Jiaxing City; therefore, the surveillance and management of local Oncomelania snails and imported schistosomiasis should be intensified to reduce the risk of schistosomiasis transmission.

ABSTRACT

Background:Understanding the local epidemiologic features of Helicobacter pylori (Hp)infection might be helpful for formulating a targeted disease control strategy. Aims:To study the current status of Hp infection and its influencing factors in health examination subjects and outpatients in Xiuzhou District,Jiaxing,Zhejiang Province. Methods:Local residents who visited the health examination center or outpatient service for Hp test from Jan. 2016 to Jun. 2017 at Zhejiang Shin-an International Hospital were enrolled. Demographic data, life style, dietary habit, drug history and history of gastroscopy and dental treatment were collected to analyze the influencing factors of Hp infection. Positive for any of the three Hp tests:13 C/ 14C-UBT,biopsy pathology and bacterial culture was defined as Hp infection. Results:A total of 4 220 adults, including 2 002 males and 2 218 females with age ranged from 18 to 80 years were enrolled. The overall detection rate of Hp infection was 38. 1%. The detection rate in males was significantly higher than that in females (45. 0% vs. 32. 0%, P<0. 05). Also, the detection rate of middle-aged subjects (41-65 years)was significantly higher than those of young (18-40 years)and elderly subjects (66-80 years)(45. 0% vs. 31. 2% and 32. 0%,P <0. 05). Cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking,as well as dinner party were associated with higher detection rate of Hp infection (P<0. 05),while long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)was associated with lower Hp detection rate (P<0. 05). No associations were found between gastroscopic procedure and dental treatment with the detection rate of Hp infection (P>0. 05). Conclusions:The detection rate of Hp infection in health examination subjects and outpatients in Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing,Zhejiang Province is relatively low when compared with the mean level in general population. Unhealthy life style is associated with the increased risk of Hp infection.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the endemic situation of schistosomiasis after its interruption of transmission in Xiuzhou District,Jiaxing City,Zhejiang Province,so as to provide the references for future surveillance work. Methods The data of schistosomiasis and Oncomelania hupensis snails in Xiuzhou District were collected and analyzed statistically. Results From 1994 to 2015,totally 975 village?times were investigated for O. hupensis snails, and the accumulated area of 4 385.31 hm2 was surveyed. Twenty former snail sites were reoccurring, with an area of 32.61 hm2. An area of 57.71 hm2 was supplied with snail eradication measures. Totally 11 941 snails were dissected and no schistosome infected snails were found. The serum and stool tests were performed to 221 794 and 3 731 residents respectively, and no local infection cases but four imported cases were found. Conclusion The endemic situation of schistosomiasis in Xiuzhou District is stable after the transmission was interrupt?ed. However, there are imported schistosomiasis cases, and therefore, the prevention of imported infection source is the focus of surveillance work.
